Restoration

In the field of restoration, CHROMA distinguishes itself with an approach that goes beyond mere preservation, offering a critical reinterpretation of historical materials in a contemporary context. This process extends beyond the recovery of existing materials; it is a transformation that connects the past to the future, breathing new life and meaning into elements of cultural heritage.

An emblematic example of this approach is the project for the Royal Palace of Caserta. Here, CHROMA reinvented the marble scraps from Vitulano, a material rich in history and charm, often used by Vanvitelli. Working with these stones, ranging in shades from red to gray, CHROMA created seating that not only reflects the elegance and history of the site but also enhances its uniqueness. The choice of the background color for these seats was not random; it was carefully studied to faithfully reproduce the color of the marbles used in the palace’s vestibule, creating a visual and material connection with the surrounding environment.

Another example of this approach is the creation of display cases using wood chips obtained from trees, unfortunately dried up, then felled in the palace gardens. It’s not just an act of recovery but also a way to keep the history of the place alive, transforming an element of its natural environment into an object that tells a story.

These restoration projects underscore CHROMA’s philosophy: not to limit itself to conservation but to reinterpret and regenerate, bringing materials from the past into a new era. It is a process that respects the history and identity of places while introducing a contemporary vision that makes them relevant and vibrant in the present and for the future. Every restoration project with CHROMA is a dialogue between times, an encounter between the history of places and the innovation of design, a balance between memory and renewal.
